On April 21st The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) will present the official Bluetooth 3.0 specification. The new standard, will mainly focus on accelerating the transfer of files between two Bluetooth devices.

According to Phone Scoop The Bluetooth 3.0 specification is to be officially released on April 21st, it includes a mode for fast transfer of files between two Bluetooth 3.0 devices. This Bluetooth 3.0 + High Speed' standard uses bluetooth technology for the handshake, then switches back to 802.11 technology, as used in wifi for the rapid transmission of large files. However there is no WiFi network required. In this mode speeds of supposedly 480Mbps can be achieved over short distances, but the final specification will clarify this. After completing the file transfer the device is switched back to the energy saving bluetooth technology, of which the maximum transfer rate is 3Mbps.

In addition to using an 802.11 protocol to accelerate the transfer of files, the new specification makes use of a so-called Enhanced Power Control technology. By varying the power of the transmitter the potential loss of signal would be dramatically decreased when for instance a phone is carried in a pocket or purse.

According to Boy Genius Report, T-Mobile also had a new product launch in New York on April 21st. Rumour has it that supposedly it will be the announcement of the greatly anticipated G2, T-Mobiles second Android driven device. The G1 was also revealed at a press presentation in New York last September.
