Assassins Creed 2 is set in the Italy of the fifteenth century, or in the year 1476 to be precise. Just like Altair from the first Assassins Creed game, the player again takes on the role of an ancestor of Desmond, that was, as Computer and Video Games reports based on leaked information. This time is about Ezio, who's killings take place in Venice and Florence. Famous places like the Basilica of San Marco, the Grand Canal and Rialto Bridge are present. The cities will have even higher buildings than the cities of the first part and Ezio will be able to use more different hiding places, from where he can directly murder guards. The Tuscan countryside will also be seen in the game, though Ubisoft says that the player no longer has to cross large pieces of emptiness, where in Assassins Creed this phenomenon was quite common and sometimes could be pretty annoying.

The story of Assassins Creed 2 will again involve two sides. While in the fifteenth century Italy will fight between families, with all its consequences, the overarching story continues on about the battle between the Assassins and the Templars. The main Character in the game Ezio starts his first misson to learn how to be an Assassin and the missions go on from there. Famous persons from the time such as Leonardo Da Vinci and Machiavelli will also play a role in the game.

Ubisoft has also made the necessary changes to the gameplay. In the first place, the mission structure has been adapted. In Assassins Creed the player followed the same route on their way to a new murder, but that will be different in part two. The mission structure is dynamic and provides greater variation. Also there are optional missions that Ezio may take on which results in a decrease of his notoriety, thus having less issues with the guards. The enemies that Ezio encounters are more varied than in part one. In addition, Ezio can choose between more weapons than Altair in the first part, which in term offers more variation while fighting.
