George Broussard, founder and director of development studio 3D Realms, has announced that his team has reached a milestone in the development of the shooter Duke Nukem Forever. Broussard has not said what the milestone consists of, but he did note that 71 of the eight to nine hundred 'tasks are yet to be completed before the game is considered finished. If that number refers to the tasks that 3D Realms had planned at the beginning of development, Duke Nukem Forever, which has been in development for twelve years, could be ready within a year. Officially however the date of the game is still unknown.

Publishers often submit milestones into their contract with developers as a means to monitor and measure the progress. Apparently 3D Realms works with the milestone model, despite the long development of the game and the poor relationship with publisher Take-Two Interactive. Broussard has also announced that the team working on 'Milestone 24', in which he listened to the intended music for the game and has provided comments.
