Google's new experimental Similar Images feature in Google Labs offers a new way to refine image searches, narrowing down your results based exclusively on images that are very similar to what you're looking for.
The new experimental service works exactly like Google Image Search, with the exception of a new Similar Images link that appears below each result provided similar images exist. When you click it, you'll see a ton of results that look like the source often providing different angles for the same or very similar shot. Other times, rather than similar images, you get the same image, just hosted on different sites. It's fun to play around with, and seems like it'll be a welcome addition to Google Image Search someday soon.
It's not entirely clear what information Google is using to determine what images are similar. But for the most part it works. For example, if you search for a particular actor from a TV show, like Battlestar Galactica and click on the similar images link, you'll find more pictures of that actor and of other actors from the show. If you search for something more general like "netbook" and click on a picture, you'll probably find more netbooks that are positioned similarly in the image frame. And if you search for something like "duck" and click on a picture of a yellow rubber ducky instead of an actual animal, your screen will be filled with yellow ducks.
