The company that brings you small bills and giant leaks

It seems like only yesterday Tele2 made the news with a giant hole in it's customer e-mail solutions. But now an even more serious leak has appeared concerning hundreds of domains.

Today Tele2 admitted a leak in their web hosting services. Tele2's hosting department called "vuurwerk" (dutch for fireworks) offers relatively cheap hosting but it appears cheap comes at a price of it's own.

Vuurwerk for whatever reason offers the ability to log in over SSH and manage your files from within the shell, which is not the smartest thing to do but with the appropriate safety precautions could prove to be usefull to webmasters. But about those safety precautions... they didn't take them and so this results in everyone being able to browse the entire root directory of the server on which their site is hosted. A painfull weakness indeed.

However Tele2 thinks of this as a minor threat and claims the files are mearly read-only and not writable, but reports by others have proven much differently. Many files of other Vuurwerk customers are said to be accesable and editable.
Tele2 said they're working hard on a way to fix this issue as quickly as possible.
