Jaunty alpha showing off brand new GDM

Today we downloaded our copy of the Ubuntu Jaunty alpha5 which has just been released for testing purposes. And the last thing we thought would be included was indeed a brand new Login screen!

After a couple of rusty brown years there is finally a reworked GDM theme for Ubuntu. Although it might not look as you'd expect it does look more polished than the previous login screens. They have chosen to leave the African look and feel in favor of a stylish black "less is more" kind of look.

Actually I don't know if this is such an improvement for it's the African touch that has always set Ubuntu apart from all the other distros when it comes to the look and theme. The thing I miss with these days Ubuntu releases is their relation to African culture, after all Ubuntu's heritage is found in South-Africa.
First they bin Mandela (which is a darn shame, that movie was awesome!) and now their brownish setting.

I know many people shed tears of joy over this loss but we at Softsaurus will certainly miss those lonely nerd moments trying to make things work in Linux while being dazed in that soothing brownish light, darn we miss those days.
